Nicaragua is the country of Central America and it is the largest of the Central American republics. It can be characterized by its agricultural economy, history of autocratic government and imbalance of regional development. Majorly settlement and economic activities have been concentrated in the western part of the country.
Nicaragua, set between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, is a Central American nation known for its dramatic terrain of lakes, volcanoes and beaches. Vast Lake Managua and the iconic stratovolcano Momotombo sit north of the capital Managua. To its south is Granada, noted for its Spanish colonial architecture and an archipelago of navigable islets rich in tropical bird life.
The country has a variety of climates and terrains, its landscape offers extensive coastal plains in the Atlantic, lowlands in the Pacific and interior mountains in the central highlands. The highest point is the peak of Cerro Mogoton, the stated elevation might be incorrect – figures vary between 2,094 m, 2,107 m and 2,438 m above sea level, but anyway, Pico Mogoton the highest mountain in the country. Nicaragua is famous for a lot of lakes and volcanoes. The two largest freshwater lakes in Central America, Lake Managua and Lake Nicaragua, are located there.
